Community
It is no secret that I am not originally from Fredericton. I moved here to attend university, but since then, have found a greater sense of belonging in this city. My ability to become a transplanted Frederictonian is simple: you cannot top the sense of community here. Lucky for me I have been accepted and supported by the most dynamic ward in the capital city.
Just think, within a 10 minute walk in any direction you can be at the academic heart of the province. You can be in heritage rich neighbourhoods. You can be in a healthy downtown core, or in one of several art galleries. You can have just about everything you want right here.
With this diverse area, we are even more fortunate to have an incredible array of people. Some people have lived here their entire lives, and some have just arrived from war-torn lands. Others are just starting their careers, while some are retiring. There are families with children, and there are young people taking up residency here while they study.
The truth is that Fredericton has something for all of us. That is what makes this city what it is. As city councillor, I hope to play a part in this, and here is how:
1. I will do everything I can to make sure that Fredericton is your home. If that is for your whole life or for 8 months at a time, you deserve the same sense of belonging. An inclusive community that everyone can be part of is my vision for Ward 11 and this great city.
2. You community will be safe. Whether you’re on College Hill or the Platt, you need to know that you are in a neighbourhood where you can live care free. With the Neighbourhood Action Team and community partners, I will make sure that it keeps getting safer.
3. I will strive to keep all lines of communication open. If you’re a senior and want to be involved in a recreation program, or if you have a young family and want to know how you can have fun together, I want to help you find those opportunities. A community is only as good as it’s citizens, so I want to make sure you all have a place. No matter who you are, this is your city.
